Organization Verification

Before applying for a .ngo.us domain, please ensure that your organization meets our eligibility requirements. Our verification process is designed to maintain the integrity of the .ngo.us namespace and ensure it remains dedicated to legitimate nonprofit organizations.

Eligibility Requirements​

1. Nonprofit Organizations​

To be eligible for a .ngo.us domain, applicants must be established nonprofit organizations, projects, or initiatives with a long-term focus and structured operations. While formal incorporation or registration with a government body is not required, organizations must demonstrate that they are organized in a meaningful and sustainable way.

Requirements include:

  • Having defined goals and a clear mission
  • Ongoing activities that align with nonprofit principles
  • A structured approach to your operations

Note: Personal projects, temporary initiatives, seasonal efforts, sandbox environments, testing projects, or small-scale labs do not qualify for a .ngo.us domain. We seek to support organizations that show lasting commitment and measurable impact in their respective fields.

2. Public Online Presence​

Applicants must maintain a visible, publicly accessible online presence that accurately reflects their organization's work and mission. This can include:

  • A website
  • Social media profiles
  • Other online platforms

These must provide comprehensive and up-to-date information about the organization's history, activities, and objectives.

For social media profiles:

  • The account must have at least 20 followers
  • A minimum of 20 posts
  • Demonstrate ongoing engagement with the public
  • Not be newly created solely for the purpose of applying

Your online presence should clearly demonstrate your organization's legitimacy, credibility, and long-term commitment to your mission.

All applicants must comply with the legal and ethical standards outlined in our Terms of Service. Organizations must:

  • Operate within legal frameworks
  • Adhere to nonprofit governance practices
  • Demonstrate good faith in their activities
  • Conduct operations ethically
  • Promote positive social, environmental, or humanitarian causes
  • Use the .ngo.us domain in a manner that aligns with these values

Verification Process​

Our verification process involves:

  1. Document Review: We examine the information provided in your application.
  2. Online Presence Verification: We verify your organization through the links provided.
  3. Mission Alignment: We ensure your organization aligns with our nonprofit focus.

For verification purposes, please ensure that the exact domain name you are applying for is mentioned prominently on one of your organization's online profiles. For example, if you are applying for example.ngo.us, ensure "example.ngo.us" is visible on your organization's website or social media.

After Verification​

Once your organization is verified:

  • You will receive a confirmation email
  • Your domain will be activated within 48 hours
  • You'll need to complete annual renewals (at no cost)

If your verification is unsuccessful, we will provide feedback on why your application did not meet our criteria and what steps you can take if you wish to reapply.
