Application Process

Before You Apply​

Please ensure that you've read and understood our eligibility requirements before proceeding with your application. Applying for a domain when your organization doesn't meet these criteria will result in rejection and wasted time for both parties.

Application Steps​

1. Register Through an Accredited Registrar or the Registry​

The first step is to register your chosen .ngo.us domain through one of our accredited domain registrars. They will collect your:

  • Organization information
  • Contact details
  • Domain name selection

Transition period in April 2025: You may still follow the lagacy approach and register a domain with the registry.

2. Pay the One-time Fee​

During registration, you'll be required to pay a one-time fee. This fee covers:

  • The domain registration process
  • Verification services
  • Administration costs

Note: There are no renewal fees for .ngo.us domains. However, you must still complete a manual renewal process annually to maintain your domain.

3. Provide Verification Information​

After completing your registration, you'll need to provide:

  • Links to your organization's public online presence
  • The intended use of your domain
  • Any additional information required for the verification process

Ensure your intended domain name is visible on at least one of your organization's online platforms. This is a critical step in our verification process.

4. Verification Review​

Once your application is submitted:

  • Our team will review your provided information
  • We may contact you if additional information is needed
  • The verification process typically takes 5 business days

5. Approval and Activation​

Upon approval:

  • You'll receive a confirmation email
  • Your domain will be activated within 48 hours
  • You'll receive information about managing your domain and DNS settings

Domain Renewal​

While there is no renewal fee, you must still renew your domain annually to maintain it:

  1. You'll receive renewal reminders 30 days before expiration
  2. Complete the renewal process through your registrar
  3. Verify that your organization still meets our eligibility criteria

Failure to complete the renewal process may result in domain expiration and loss.
